New teacher joins Shu Ren faculty

Shu Ren in thrilled to announce that Kai-Yao To (塗凯姚)will join the school to teach our Kindergarten and First Grade students this fall.

Kai-Yao’s passion is to teach young children Chinese language and culture. She enjoys integrating teaching Chinese language with stories, art (Chinese brush painting), calligraphy, and history. She has been teaching Chinese language and cultural classes in the East Bay area for more than 7 years. Before joining Shu Ren, Kai-Yao was a kindergarten teacher in the Chinese Program at the Cornell School, Albany Unified School District, where she taught students with vastly different levels of Chinese knowledge. She also taught Chinese brush painting at East Bay Chinese School and Albany Berkeley Chinese School. Kai-Yao came to teaching Chinese as an accomplished artist. She has a Communication Arts Degree in Zhu-Shan School, Taiwan, and had worked as a Graphic Designer and Art Director in companies in Taiwan and in the U.S. She received a “Teaching Chinese as a Heritage Language” certificate from Cal East Bay University and has passed the California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) in Mandarin Subjects.

Letter from Jie Moore: New Tuition and Admissions Structure, and Save the Date!

Dear Friends of Shu Ren:

Greetings! The renovation of Shu Ren is going very well and we expect to complete it at the end of this month. We are confident that we will be able to open our school in early September. Considering the fact that we just located this site in March, it will be an incredible accomplishment to be able to open within six months! The exact day may vary depending on the City inspection and Community Care Licensing.

I also want to let you all know that we have made some significant changes to the admissions process & our tuition/fees structure. The main motivation is to meet the diverse needs of parents and make the admission process more streamlined.

Finally, please save the date! We are planning to celebrate our Grand Opening on September 20, 2008. You are all invited to the celebration. On Grand Opening Day, you will have an opportunity to tour our beautiful campus, talk to school administrators and teachers, and meet other parents who share similar interests and a passion for Mandarin immersion education. It will be a wonderful occasion for all of us to get together.

We hope that Shu Ren International School will become a Center in the East Bay for Chinese immersion education and Chinese cultural activities. Our success also relies on your support and involvement. We are constantly seeking feedback from parents about how we may improve our school. If you have any suggestion about our program, ideas about possible new classes and so on, I would love to hear them.
Thank you,
Jie Moore
